The town of Ulvila was first founded as early as in the year of 1365. This medieval merchant town has during the centuries developed into a modern and cosy garden town in the neighbourhood of the town of Pori. By the union of the municipalities (on Jan 1st in 2005) the tourism services of Kullaa, implicitly, among others, those in the hiking areas around Joutsijärvi as well as in the ironworks village of Leineperi, have also been included. The chief districts of Ulvila are Friitala, Vanhakylä and Koski - the vicinity of the church of Kullaa. Contemporate Ulvila is famous as a centre for automation industries, where several international enterprises manufacturing industrial automation and logistic systems operate.

These famous sayings in local dialect do strongly differ from standard Finnish: "KO PORISS O MARKKINAT JA ULVILAS PAPINVAALI, NI PIRU EI TIÄR KUMMAS HÄÄRIS." 'When it is market day in Pori and priest election in Ulvila, then the little devil does not know which one to visit' "Ei hätä ol tämä näköne, se on piäni ja punane." 'A problem does not look like this, it is small and red.' "Joka on nahas, se on rahas; joka on veras, se on velas." 'The ones who spent their money right now wear leather; the others who wasted money are in canvas wear.'

In district Friitala there is Villa Helleranta, attached to the company history of Friitala Ltd., which was built in functionalist style. Villa Helleranta provides prescheduled restaurant and accommodation services based on individual orders.

The wooden church in Kullaa was built in the years of 1766-67. This church represents the typical Western-Finnish towered long-church type, which was extended by two lower lateral naves.
